Scientific Careers: Volcanologists And Biochemists

Connecting one's career with science can be seen as an important decision that requires students to devote their time and efforts for study and research. Curiosity about the natural world, educating people or other specific goals might all serve as an indication of an interest in a scientific career. Although a difficult journey, a scientific career might be a great opportunity for success, where the availability of options indicate that selecting a scientific path will eventually pay off for students. In that regard, it should be stated that a scientific career is not necessarily related to the term scientist. There are many occupations that students might choose in scientific careers. The present article will provide a brief overview of two occupations, a biochemist and a volcanologist.

Biochemists

Biochemistry as a discipline is concerned with researching and studying the composition of living organisms. Thus, a biochemist is a person whose main responsibilities include understanding and explaining chemical reactions and combinations occurring in various processes within living organisms. ... might include metabolism, growth, reproduction, etc. The tasks performed by biochemists are usually required in laboratory settings, namely in the pharmaceutical industry, where biochemists perform researchers.

Volcanologists

Volcanology, as the title implies, is a discipline concerned with studying volcanoes. A volcanologists, accordingly, is a scientist whose main responsibilities revolve around investigating active volcanoes, their eruptions, the products of eruptions, and others, in order to explain and predict their occurrences. The typical tasks of volcanologists include performing survey measurements, GPS surveys, plotting graphs, and drawing maps of volcanoes. Volcanologists mainly work at remote sites in government organizations, such as State geological surveys, State departments of conservation, the Department of Interior, and others. Additionally, it should be mentioned that the outlook for such career is generally positive with an expected growth of employment in such field.
