How To Soundproof Ceilings And Walls
Facing sounds continuously throughout the night can be awful. I have been there. This information has assisted me and I want to share with you beneficial tips on how to soundproof your house. I will show you the surfaces that reflect sound, and the surfaces that are good in absorbing sound.
Surfaces that reflect sound are hard and smooth. Surfaces that absorb sound are porous and soft. Other materials that assist to dampen sound are textured wall coverings, dense carpet and cork paneling.
Soundproofing a ceiling
One of the best ways to soundproof a ceiling is with sound proofing tiles . While installing these tiles, always put on a strong and smooth ceiling. You can both nail furring strips to the joists at right angles, and then put the tiles to the strips by stapling them, or you can install directly by using an adhesive.
Soundproofing walls
A very efficient way to soundproof walls is to add a stud wall. This can be done by taking the old wall down to the studs, and then add a new ...
... row of studs that are off the center with the original studs. You will want to install the new studs directly just in front of the old studs, and get them lined up midway between the originals. Keep in mind not to allow the bottom sole plat or the top plate touch the original plates or you will experience vibration. Put insulation between the two and finish with new sheet rock or plasterboard.
You can also make your walls denser by adding a new layer of sheet rock to the original plasterboard. You will have to remove all the baseboards and moldings. Put adhesive after the stud lines. With every new piece of sheet rock, put a nail across the stud edges. If you want to soundproof more, adding insulation to the furring strips is a great idea.
There are different variations of sound absorbing ceiling panels and before you plan to install one, it is handy to have some information before you decide if it is the right choice for you. These types of ceiling panels are designed in a contoured way implying all the elements of sound absorption are within it. This is a major aspect that needs excellent planning before applying the ceiling in your premises, as without easy access, you won’t be able to execute any maintenance that might be necessary.
Along with heat conservation, such ceilings also make excellent sound barriers. They are designed to absorb sound and by doing that keep the acoustics of an area muted and assist to prevent sound travelling from suppose one office to another. With these aspects in mind, many business and institutions choose to install these ceilings across their amenities to create a pleasant surrounding working ambience.
