In grid layout, a rectangular shape organisation is followed which helps in shopping quickly utilising maximum shop floor space. While in racetrack layout, a straight path is followed which helps in displaying every possible product associated with the brand but can be irritating to the consumer as they feel like they are being directed onto a forced path.

In merchandising, the positioning of products puts a huge impact on buying-decision making process. Products at eye-level are catchier and hence, gives a sense of freedom of choice. Odd numbers re more attention seeking as well because of the fact that odd numbers instil a sense of incompleteness according to general psychology. Similar products should be arranged from left to right while their varieties should be arranged from top to bottom. The psychology behind this is the convenience of our vision of browsing from left to right hence, showcasing a number of products without much clutter.

Highlighting areas or products using strategically placed lights can increase honesty, positivity and impulse buying. Another essential component is the level of brightness of lighting.
