The work experience for university and college students can be divided into two distinctive periods, the first years and senior years. Such experience, of course, is applicable to those studying right after finishing school. The differences in work experiences can be explained by that the purposes of finding a job might change. This article provides an overview of such differences, explaining the main factors that should be considered by students during both periods.

First Years

During the first years, students are not able to yet to acquire the knowledge sufficient to work. Accordingly, the main priority during such period is put on learning, with work being merely a complementary activity. For foreign students such activity might provide an opportunity to learn the language in a faster pace, while for native students, the work can be seen as a chance to earn extra pocket money. The main factor that should be considered by students during such period is not to make the job interfere with their academic performance, managing their time in a way that maintains a balance between both activities.

Senior Years

For ...
... senior students, it can be stated that priorities shift later in the study period. Students acquire enough knowledge to transfer theory into practice. Additionally, senior students start to think about their first employment after graduation, trying to gain the required experience for their resumes. Work at this period is not likely to interfere with the study, and, thus, there is a decent chance to have a job related to the studied specialization. In that regard, the factors that students might consider during that period revolve around the way students can utilize the work experience for education. Usually, such aspects are reflected through using the information and the experience in the workplace to write research papers and/or dissertations.
