A Pleasant Experience
To sell a used car for the price you want a lot of it comes down to ensuring the buyer has a pleasant experience. If the buyer has a pleasant experience then it will be less likely that they will try and negotiate with you to the point you become so weary of the negotiation that you will immediately accept their offer. If the buyer is having a positive experience then the more comfortable they will fell with the transaction and hence the asking price for the vehicle. In order to sell a used car effectively and not get ripped off due to poor negotiating skills a few key points are worth considering during the selling process. It all starts with greeting the buyer warmly.
If the buyer likes you, then the chances are they will find it easier to do business with you. On the other hand if the buyer dislikes you they will try and get away from you as soon as possible. This may actually lead the buyer leaving before even trying to negotiate. This could actually be worse than negotiating and getting a lower price than you want. Remember you are trying to sell a used car. A lot of the time (unless the car is something very special) ...
... it will not sell itself. The buck doesn't stop at introductions however. You should maintain your pleasant attitude throughout the whole process. Do not get negative suddenly now that you have got passed the introduction phase.
If the buyer senses any negativity coming from you it not only gives them reason to dislike you, it also transfers to the buyer. Keep this in mind. The real emotion you want to become infections when you sell a used car is excitement. Excitement is one of the most easily transferable emotions. People love being thrilled and they are good at sensing when other people are excited about something. It is just like smiling, remember the old adage ‘smile and the world smiles with you'. This is more accurate than you may think. Crack jokes, remember the good times you had with the car and share these with the buyer. The buyer will eat it up. They may even start joking around with you, at this point you have a cascading effect of enthusiasm and it is time to throw in a closer to finalise the sale.
