Office Cleaning - An Essential Routine
Just as we clean our homes and the places where we live and spend time, we should make sure we attend to office cleaning procedures in Westminster, in Strand, in Belgravia, and other parts of London, or wherever we live and work.
Cleanliness is essential: it keeps us healthy and keeps the germs and bacteria at bay, and it also tells people how we feel about ourselves and our surroundings. A clean office, further, provides a good space for those people that we employ, especially if this is where they spend many hours every day.
A SHORT INTRODUCTION
A clean work environment, i.e. a clean office, sets the scene for all activities. People feel uncomfortable when their offices, kitchen, and bathroom are not clean; besides, it is embarrassing to meet or entertain visitors in a space that is un-neat and of which it is easy to see that nobody cares.
It also spills over into the attitudes of those that work there. Fortunately, most professional companies realize this, and therefore they arrange for the services of office cleaners, normally a cleaning services company that offers their services in this regard ...
... in the region or suburbs where they are known for being available. These days office cleaning, for most, is an item to be included in the budget and is no longer a service that you may call in only from time to time.
HEALTH CONCERNS
In the UK, as in most developed societies, regulations apply to ensure employees are provided with a workplace that is clean and tidy and that reasonable steps are taken to ensure it is enforced. In the UK, for example, this refers to the Workplace Regulations Act, with specific reference to Health and Safety.
Any office where enough care is not taken to keep spaces clean quickly becomes a playground for germs and bad bacteria as they can quickly spread from one person to the next – also when visitors enter. Therefore cleaning is essential so that surfaces are wiped and disinfected with materials manufactured for this purpose.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
• A clean office creates a space that is, for both the employee and visitor, attractive. It is normally one’s first introduction to an organization and is indicative of its ethos.
• This applies to all spaces, incidentally, where people work, not only offices. Think of hundreds of other examples such as factories where food is produced and packaged, where workers touch surfaces and then products or objects which are meant for shops, for instance.
• A clean office or work environment can quickly help us form an opinion about the standards of the office or organization.
• It keeps the workforce positive, just as a dirty work environment is an invitation to be lazy and laissez-faire.
• How clean or how dirty your work environment is, certainly has an impact on how productive employees are. In a neat, well-organised environment everybody feels more motivated to do their best, with the opposite also being true in a space where things are dirty and untidy.
WHICH AREAS SHOULD ALWAYS BE CLEAN?
Of course, the whole office should always be clean and neat, with special mention to workstations where people often spend many hours at a computer or work desk. You want the chair to be clean, and also your computer and telephone and other equipment that you handle regularly. Everything that you touch frequently should be cleaned and disinfected from time to time to limit the possibility of germs spreading.
Think of the bathroom, too, where people use toilets and other facilities, the kitchen, and areas where they have their tea and lunch breaks.
The above is a great starting point for the manager or owner of an office or other workspace to consider in terms of which cleanliness and office health are looked at.
