On august 2 , 2023 , an important meeting is going to take place virtually in which the goods and services council will make amendments to the existing law to create a way for imposition of higher rate of 28 per cent GST on online gaming companies in the country.
Leading online gaming companies, both established companies such as skyexch signup and start-up have met the officials of the ministry of electronics and information technology to convince them to review the decision of higher taxation.

The special virtual meeting is crucial in terms of repetitive taxation issue also. Online gaming companies need clarity on repetitive taxes on winning amounts. Winners often use the winning amount to play another game or put another bet. If the same winning amount is taxed repetitively every time they play, then a gamer will be left with no money.

Even officials acknowledge that there must be clear rules regarding taxes on winning by a gamer. A gamer on skyexch signup needs to know the definition of face value. This simple issue will decide if she goes to play another ...
... game or places a bet or not.
The issue of repetitive tax on full face value of a bet is flagged by all online gaming companies. The single issue will determine whether companies will be able to retain their consumer or gamers’ base.

Currently a gamer with sky exchange betting IDhas to pay only 18 per cent tax on game of skill. Even this tax is on the gross gaming revenue. The game of chance attracts 28 per cent of the total bet value. If there is no change in the decision of the council, then all games irrespective of skill or chance, will come under the same higher 28 percent bracket.

Gaming industry fears that all investment and technology transfer which has happened in the last few years will come to an end. There will be no incentive left to invest in the online gaming industry. The companies will no longer be in position to retain employees and mass layoff will follow.
The chances of any review seem to be remote as officials have not hinted at any revision of the taxation regime. As it has been reported in the media that according to the council there are some moral issues surrounding online gaming. The meeting as per their briefing is for firming up technical details and complete necessary legal changes.

The intention is to present the GST amendment in the current monsoon session of the parliament. Probably this will be the last meeting of the goods and services council, the highest body responsible for indirect taxes in the country. It has representatives of states and central government.

Any favourable decision on face value taxes sky exchange betting ID and repetitive taxes on every bet will bring relief to online gaming companies. At least it will ensure that some big and established players will be able to deal with the situation successfully.
