Li-Fi, short for light fidelity, is an emerging wireless communication technology that utilizes LED bulbs or invisible infrared light to transmit data at incredibly high speeds. Recently recognized as a standard by the IEEE, Li-Fi has captured attention for its potential to revolutionize connectivity.

Li-Fi offers significant advantages over traditional technologies like Wi-Fi and 5G. With reported speeds up to 100 times faster than Wi-Fi, reaching up to 224 Gbps in tests, Li-Fi enables lightning-fast data transfer, opening doors to applications that require rapid and reliable communication. Furthermore, Li-Fi enhances security through its line-of-sight propagation, minimizing the risk of interference, eavesdropping, and unauthorized access.

Despite its promising features, Li-Fi does face limitations. Its reliance on direct line-of-sight communication means it requires an unobstructed path between the transmitter and receiver, limiting its range and usability in environments with obstacles or direct sunlight. However, the IEEE standardization of Li-Fi offers the potential for improved interoperability with existing ...
... technologies, paving the way for hybrid networks that leverage both Li-Fi and Wi-Fi strengths.

The introduction of Li-Fi has generated significant excitement, particularly in the business sector, as it holds the potential to enhance wireless connectivity and overcome the limitations of current technologies. While challenges such as range and infrastructure requirements persist, ongoing advancements in Li-Fi technology are expected to drive increased adoption and integration, providing faster, more secure, and reliable wireless communication solutions for a wide range of industries and applications. https://www.techdogs.com/tech-news/td-newsdesk/will-light-based-wireless-networking-make-wi-fi-obsolete
