5 Of The Less Conventional Attractions You Can Find On The Costa Del Sol -simply Shuttles
What is the Costa del Sol “about” as far as you’re concerned? Ask a lot of people, and the answer might seem obvious: sun, sea, sangria…
But this coastal region of southern Spain isn’t merely a place to set up your sun lounger and feel grains of sand between your toes as you while away the hours on the beach. That’s because it also throws up no shortage of more ‘unusual’ attractions, which you’ll regret not including in your itinerary if you overlook them.
And of course, our own Málaga Airport private transfers here at Simply Shuttles can make it a quicker and easier process for you to experience them in person.
So, let’s take a closer look at some of those must-not-miss sights and sounds that you might not initially think of when planning your trip to this part of Andalucía.
Caminito del Rey
Not only is the 100ft El Chorro gorge a visual stunner and a geological marvel, but it also has a captivating history; a walkway was first constructed along its steep walls in the early 20th century, but as the years went on, it gradually fell into disrepair and became known as one ...
... of the world’s most hazardous paths.
Five deaths over the course of 1999 and 2000 prompted the authorities to act, and in recent years, new, much safer boardwalks have been installed above the old pathway. So, while it’s not quite as scary a terrain to negotiate as it once was, this is still an utterly stunning Costa del Sol attraction.
Centre Pompidou Málaga
Even those of you reading this who are experienced visitors to art galleries around Europe are likely to immediately think of the Centre Pompidou as being a Parisian attraction, rather than a Spanish one.
In 2015, however, that situation changed slightly, with the establishment of the Centre Pompidou Málaga. It is housed in the instantly recognisable multicoloured ‘El Cubo’, and gives Spaniards and visitors to Spain a taste of the renowned contemporary arts centre without the need to cross the border. Works of 20th and 21st-century art are put on display here, sourced from the Centre Pompidou’s extensive collection.
Restaurante Caserío de San Benito
A lot of people turn to our team at Simply Shuttles in order to arrange restaurant transfers, or to enable them to reach their favourite Andalucian museums quicker. But why choose between visiting a museum or a restaurant on your next journey around the region, when you can have… both at once?
This is what the excellent Caserío de San Benito serves up at Autovía de Málaga. The eatery itself is set in a farmhouse with a history dating back more than two centuries. When you are interested in sampling delectable grilled meat, pork products, and rice dishes on an enchanting rural backdrop, there really is no reason to look elsewhere in this part of Spain.
Bioparc Fuengirola
Technically, Bioparc is a zoo, but not quite the kind of zoo you might have known when visiting one as a child. Instead, it represents what is effectively a new model of park, in which animals reside in a faithful recreation of their natural habitat.
And as a visitor to Bioparc Fuengirola, you will feel immersed in that habitat, as you experience the animals as if you were in Madagascar, South-east Asia, the Indo-Pacific, or Equatorial Africa. More than 200 animal species live here, with many of them endangered or at risk of becoming endangered.
Chamber of Secrets Torremolinos
Attending a theatre show might not seem like the most obvious reason to head to the Costa del Sol, but it perhaps ought to be, if Chamber of Secrets in happening Torremolinos is anything to go by.
How can one sum it up? Well, let’s simply call it an all-inclusive, fun-filled evening out encompassing the best music, comedy, magic, mind-reading, illusion, puppetry, and escapes, as delivered by a cast of super-talented performers. It’s a cabaret extravaganza for all the family, and sure to be the most memorable night of your trip to Torremolinos, or even the wider Costa del Sol.
There you have it – five relatively unusual sources of fun and excitement not to miss when you come to Andalucia and take advantage of our Málaga Airport private transfers. Speaking of which, why not call +34 951 279 117 today to book your transfer for your upcoming visit to the region?
