Bhubaneswar, Jun 9: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday inaugurated the Virtual and Augmented Reality Centre of Excellence at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar.

The Union Minister also encouraged IIT Bhubaneswar to keep pace with the changing aspirations of New India and also localise the innovations and solutions.

"AR & VR have immense potential to transform education, healthcare, and architecture among others. This CoE will accelerate digital transformation across disciplines, invigorate application-driven research as well as boost entrepreneurship," Pradhan said.
"Heartening to know that IIT Bhubaneswar intends to augment the existing experimental facilities and establish two pioneering centres, one for materials characterization, processing and manufacturing and other for a Centre of Excellence for Laboratory Grown Diamonds," he tweeted.

Both these facilities will expand the R&D and innovation profile of IIT Bhubaneswar, strengthen innovation & research in material sciences, boost industry-academia linkages, aid the development of critical technologies, encourage entrepreneurship, boost employment and make India self-reliant in frontier areas, he added.

The Union Minister also reviewed the physical infrastructure, research projects, academic programmes and measures for faculty development of IIT Bhubaneswar, IIM Sambalpur, NIT Rourkela, CUO Koraput and IISER Berhampur.
