Their history, social class, and – ahem – finances mean they’re incredibly influential not just in British society, but across the globe. And this impact naturally extends to fashion and style.
While it’s typically important, they promote a ‘traditional’ fashion sense and follow strict fashion etiquette, each key female Royal has blessed us with various looks that are certainly worth taking inspiration from.
King Charles III’s coronation is fast approaching, meaning we can expect to see some seriously luxurious fits from the family and celebrity attendees. Until then, let’s explore some of the best looks from the Royal Family’s leading ladies over the last five years.
Princess Kate
Kate Middleton, aka Catherine, Princess of Wales. Since joining the Royal Family in 2011 after marrying Prince William (who can forget that stunning wedding dress!), Kate has served up some incredible looks that have entered the halls of fame in fashion blogs, magazines, and newspapers all around the world.
Emerald Isle, 2020
You can’t go wrong with wearing green to an event in Ireland, especially ...
... when that green is the colour of a Falconetti dress by The Vampire’s Wife. Vogue magazine called it a “major moment in royal dressing,” and it’s not hard to see why. Kate slayed in this silk-blend chiffon fabric, and that metallic shimmer had heads turning with each step.
BAFTA Film Awards, 2018
Has the nation’s sweetheart found her signature colour? Kate, who was pregnant at the time, looked stunning at the 2018 BAFTA Film Awards in a deep green gown by Jenny Packham – but it was the accessories that really stole the show. Wearing an emerald jewellery suite comprising of a necklace, earrings, and bracelet, this was perhaps a sign she was destined to be a Princess.
Princess Beatrice
The eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York – and niece to the King himself – Princess Beatrice is a key member of the British Royal Family and has been known to rock the fashion boat. Despite being in line to the literal throne, she’s had no problem challenging the style rules from time to time.
Night out in London, 2018
There was no flowing knee-length gown in sight for this night out. Princess Beatrice was snapped taking tight dresses to a whole new level by pairing one with a white belted jacket. At first glance, you might have mistaken her for just a normal girly out on the town after a long week in the office, but nope! That’s a British Princess, and we’re buzzing about her outfit choice here.
Lady Gabriella Windsor's May 2019 nuptials, 2019
A little more royal-esque this time and still killing it! Princess Beatrice looked stylish and elegant in a navy lace-tiered Self-Portrait dress at Lady Gabriella Windsor's May 2019 nuptials. She added champagne stilettos and a white fascinator to the look, which was totally *chef’s kiss*.
Princess Eugenie
From one stylish sister to another, Princess Eugenie has had her fair share of moments that have created wardrobe waves across the world. The youngest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York has also shown that it’s okay to push boundaries here and there, sporting everything from a sexy red lip to chic leather dresses.
St George's Chapel, 2018
Easter is all about bright colours and beautiful patterns, two elements Princess Eugenie incorporated into her Easter Sunday church service look in 2018. While the predominant colour in this outfit was black, the fuchsia pink hat and multicoloured patterned skirt added some dazzle and showed the Princess’s playful side.
Royal Ascot Races, 2019
It’s not uncommon to spot royalty at a big racing event, and when they do attend, you can best believe their presence is going to be the main event! Princess Eugenie gained positive attention in 2019 by sporting a sleeveless turquoise dress with a high neck and nipped-in waist. Flashes of bright yellow could be found on her hat and poking from underneath the bottom of her skirt. Beautiful!
If you’ve got it, flaunt it
Our favourite Royal ladies are no strangers to making headlines with their outfit choices. We can look to them for the ultimate timeless inspiration, trusting that their team of personal shoppers and stylists are keeping up with all the latest trends – so that we don’t have to!
While most of us will indeed struggle to afford the exact kind of attire they often wear (£7,300 for one dress?!), it’s simple enough to find high street alternatives with similar materials, colour, and style.
What kind of outfits are you hoping to see from our Princesses on 6 May?
