Indices or a stock market index are the basket of securities that reflects how the stock market is doing. Nifty 50 which is a basic index of the NSE has listed the top 50 large-cap companies in India. Similarly, sectoral indices reflect the index of a certain sector such as banks, healthcare, IT, etc. It represents how a particular sector is doing and provides the benchmark to the companies. In this article, we’ll see the details of the types of sectoral indices on the NSE.
List of Sectoral Indices in NSE
Here are the details of some of the sectoral indices of the NSE:
1.   NIFTY Bank Index
Nifty Bank Index or called Bank Nifty includes the 12 major banking stocks of India in terms of liquidity and market capitalization. The top five banks in this index are HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, SBI, and Kotak Bank.
2.   NIFTY Auto Index
Nifty Auto is the index that comprises 15 stocks of Indian automobile companies. It is not a ...
... tradable index where you can invest your money directly into it. It reflects the behaviors of the Indian automobile sector and is computed on the basis of free-float market capitalization.
3.   NIFTY Financial Services Index
Nifty Financial Services Index comprises the top 20 stocks of Indian financial companies such as banks, insurance companies, NBFCs, etc. The top five stocks in this Index are HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Limited, Kotak Bank, and Axis Bank. 
4.   NIFTY Media Index
Nifty Media Index includes the top 10 stocks of the media and entertainment companies along with the printing and publishing companies. The top five stocks in this index are Zee Entertainment Enterprises, PVR Limited, Sun TV Network, TV18 Broadcast Limited,  and Nazara Technologies Limited.
5.   NIFTY Metal Index
Nifty Metal Index includes the top 15 stocks of metals and mining companies in India. The top five stocks in this index are Tata Steel Limited, JSW Steel Limited, Hindalco Industries Limited, Adani Enterprises Limited, and Vedanta Limited.
6.   NIFTY Pharma Index
Nifty Pharma Index includes the top 20 stocks of companies involved in the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products in India. The top five stocks in this index are Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Cipla Limited, Divi's Laboratories Limited, and Alkem Laboratories Limited.
7.   NIFTY FMCG Index
Nifty FMCG Index comprises the top 15 stocks of the FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) sector. FMCG companies work in the area of producing non-durable and mass-consumption goods which are easily available. The top five stocks in this index are ITC Limited, Hindustan Unilever Limited, Nestle India Limited, Tata Consumer Products Limited, and Godrej Consumer Products Limited.
8.   NIFTY Healthcare Index
Nifty Healthcare Index includes the top 20 stocks of Indian healthcare companies. The top five stocks in this index are Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Cipla Limited, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, and Divi's Laboratories Limited.
9.   NIFTY IT Index
Nifty IT Index comprises the top 10 IT (Information Technology) stocks in India. The top five stocks in this index are Infosys Limited, TCS Limited, Wipro Limited, HCL Technologies Limited, and Tech Mahindra Limited.
