Why English?

Todays, we live in the time of globally connected world through internet. Internet makes our communication easier. The communication is held smoothly as the move of hand on mouse or fingertip on gadget. We don’t need to go to internet café or post office longer to communicate with colleagues and family on the other side of globe. Social media as the more advanced innovation of the internet, such as FB, twitter and others, have transformed the way we communicate and otherwise socialize. The ones enable us to communicate with almost anyone and anywhere on real time.
Thus, social media allow us to exchange ideas, to discuss and debate on various topics at a global scale. In those conversations, English serves as a common language, enables individuals from different countries and cultures to engage in discussions, share perspectives, and collaborate on a wide range of issues.
Furthermore, social media also has become a platform for English language learning and practice. English learners can engage with English-speaking communities, follow English content, participate in discussions, and receive feedback on their ...
... language skills. Social media provides opportunities for fostering language learning and intercultural understanding.
In addition, how social media fosters English learning. Samuel and Pulizala (2020) describe that social media had wide-reaching impacts on the way people communicate in English. Various changes are evident in the way people write and speak English because of the changing nature of communication in social networking platforms. One of the most significant effects of social media on verbal and written English is the acquisition of vocabulary.
Nevertheless, Amin et al. (2020) found in their study that social media also become possibly the most important factor and caused obstruction in language learning. The one could divert language learner to deception, unscholarly and ungrammatical contents, obscenities, and generic collaborations. Besides being the effective platforms that provide up-to-date information, a significant measure of language input, communication with native language speakers, and front line learning.
The last but not the least, the analogy of the knife we can take as to explain how the tool can be danger or helpful to human’s life. It depends on the user. How the internet/social media can be helpful or obstruction to English learning depends on how we use it. It depends on our goals and consistency in using social media as a tool in learning English.
