Playa Del Carmen Real Estate - Properties, Lifestyle, Activities
The area known as the Riviera Maya, starting just south of Cancun, centered on Playa del Carmen and ending at Tulum is often promoted to tourists as "sun and fun all year round;" while tourists hardly need to care if the weather is great all year round (it only matters when they go,) this point is most important for those planning to buy real estate and live in this area.
Playa del Carmen has evolved from a small village, only about 20 years ago, to a happening, cosmopolitan community with the highest urban growth rate in Mexico, and one of the highest in Latin America. Playa del Carmen real estate now offers everything from high-end luxury condos on the beachfront to large ecological lots in "green" communities back in the Jungle. Cheap properties can be found for less than $50,000 USD, expensive properties can be over $2 million.

... turquoise water are what made Playa del Carmen famous, residents can also enjoy an exciting nightlife and international restaurants in an elegant, cosmopolitan atmosphere of Fifth Avenue - the town's original tourist strip.
Activities to enjoy nature include diving, snorkeling, sailing, wind-surfing, hiking, horseback riding, bike riding, paintball, four-wheeler riding, sky-diving, and much more. There are also the mysterious cenotes, calm, cool pools at the entrance to the area's extensive underground cave system, excellent for a swim on a hot day, or for more adventurous divers. Several eco-parks allow close contact with the area's nature and traditional Mayan culture.
Playa del Carmen has also been called Latin America's capital of golf, with 2 PGA courses, home to the first PGA event in Latin America, and a broad selection of other courses to choose from.
Just down the road is the town of Tulum. Tulum real estate appears to be where Playa del Carmen was about 10 years ago, offering a similar range of prices. One major difference is the upcoming Riviera Maya International Airport, just 8 miles out of town, expecting to bring new growth and services. Since development is new, there are more options for land on the market.
Tulum shares many of the same activity options as Playa del Carmen - in a way, the share all their benefits, since they are only 45 minutes apart. The most outstanding feature of the town of Tulum itself is the Mayan pyramid site, with its main pyramid sitting on top of a cliff, with an awe-inspiring view of the beach and ocean. Most of the eco-parks are located between the two cities, some closer to Playa, others closer to Tulum.
