A Guide To Choosing Conservatory Blinds

In Scotland, where most homes tend to be quite old and small, people have extended them by converting loft spaces, building extensions and adding conservatories. Adding a conservatory is a popular choice because it is one of the cheaper options.
However, there are issues with conservatories! They can be cold during the winter and in the evening, and then too hot during the day especially, during the summer months. With all the glass, they don't give you much privacy especially at night when you put the lights on. For these reasons, people often find that they don't use their conservatory as much as they originally planned.
The easy and affordable solution to these problems is to install conservatory window blinds. Blinds provide privacy, can help insulate the room and can keep strong sun rays out. Unlike curtains, when the sun shines in, you can choose to only cover part of the window where the sun is shining.
How to choose conservatory blinds
Perfect Fit Blinds
If like most conservatories, your windows ...
... and doors are uPVC, we highly recommend Perfect Fit Blinds. They are available in hundreds of colours and you can choose Venetian-style blinds, roller blinds or pleated blinds. They are ideal because they fit neatly into the frame without the need for any drilling or screwing. This means they take up very little space and you can open your door and windows without worrying about your blinds flapping about in the wind.
Roller Blinds & Venetian Blinds
As we discussed already, you can choose roller or Venetian Perfect Fit blinds, however, you may not have uPVC windows or you may wish a different look in your conservatory. Both are available in hundreds of colours and patterns including wood. A roller blind simply rolls up and down and is always very popular. A Venetian blind is made up of horizontal slats which can be angled to let daylight in even when they are pulled down.
Vertical Blinds
A vertical blind is made up of vertical slats that can be angled to block out some sun glare but let in the daylight. They are ideal for tall windows but can be used on any size of window. People tend to love or hate them but with a wide range of colours and being easy to clean, we do recommend them for conservatories.
Roman Blinds
Roman blinds are made from materials similar to curtains and are popular in period homes or wooden conservatories. They will make your conservatory cosy during the winter, however, if you need to pull them down in the summer, it will make your conservatory very dark.
In conclusion
It is possible to buy blinds online nowadays, however, we recommend booking an appointment with your local blinds company. They will bring you samples and will be able to advise you about choosing the best blinds for your particular conservatory. They will be able to discuss all the pros and cons of each type of blind. The other benefit of using a local company is that they will measure all your blinds and windows and be responsible for fitting your blinds. If there are any issues with the sizing or fitting, it will be their responsibility.
