What is Robotic Knee Replacement ?
A robotic knee replacement is same as a conventional knee replacement. Your surgeon removes damaged tissue in your knee and replaces it with an artificial joint. The difference is that it's done with assistance from a robotic arm or handheld robotic device . Robotic-assisted procedures allow for greater precision and lead to shorter recovery times and better results. In more complex cases, a robotic-assisted knee replacement offers a better balance in the soft tissues around your knee, and better aligns the joint. If you're having a robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery, you don't have to prepare any differently than you would for a conventional surgery.

Mako Robot
The Mako system uses specific scans of your knee before surgery to get precise measurements of your knee. Before a Mako knee replacement surgery, you’ll get specialized CT scans that create a 3-D image of your knee joint, bone structure, and surrounding tissues. This detailed picture helps your surgeon plan every step of your surgery. Cuts can be made with precision to the millimeter, picking the right implant ...
... size and positioning. At the beginning of a Mako surgery, your surgeon will use tracking pins to help the robot confirm that it received correct size and positioning information from your CT scans. Then, the Mako arm positions itself and your surgeon uses the hand-held tool to perform your knee replacement. The tool will guide the surgeon throughout the procedure, enhancing their experience and skills.

Why Does it Happen?
Knee replacement surgery is most commonly performed to address severe pain caused by osteoarthritis. Walking, climbing stairs, and getting in and out of chairs are all common challenges for those who need knee replacement surgery. Patient is made to walk the next day and can be discharged in 48-72hrs.Patient

Recovery Rate
Robotic joint replacement uses more precise incisions and helps achieve optimal positioning, which may lead to a better and faster recovery. After your surgery, your surgeon and the rest of your care team will monitor your progress, help to relieve discomfort, and chart a course for your at-home recovery.

Diagnosis
Test
Laboratory testing and image-guided exams are also part of the total knee replacement pre-operative evaluation.

The following tests are commonly performed on patients:

EKG (electrocardiography) is a test that is used to screen for cardiac problems.
Urinalysis is used to check for infections, diabetes, and other disorders in the urine.
To diagnose infections and screen for specific illnesses, a CBC blood test is performed.
For information on metabolic health, such as blood glucose levels, electrolytes, and acid/base balance, use the Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP).
Albumin is a protein that is found in the (Blood) Check for malnutrition and liver disease with this test.
Test for inflammation in the body using the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR).
The Prothrombin Time Test (PT) is used to determine how quickly blood clots.
Patients are also subjected to radiographic exams, such as a chest X-ray, to screen for infection or disease in the lungs. X-rays, MRIs, and other imaging tests of the knee
Risks & Complications
During the surgery
The dangers of robotic knee replacement surgery are the same as those of traditional knee replacement surgery. Among them include, but are not limited to: Damage to the nerves. thrombosis of the deep veins (blood clots)

Enhanced surgical planning

Specialized 3-D CT Scan images are taken in preparation for and during surgery. These images help your surgeon more accurately plan the optimal type and placement of your replacement joint to ensure the right size and fit.

Greater precision

Robotic technologies enhance your orthopaedic surgeon’s expertise for more precise planning, tissue removal and implant placement. This can cause faster recovery times, fewer complications and a lower likelihood of revision surgery.

Optimal joint alignment

With robotic technology, your surgeon is able to better align and position your knee implant. This helps ensure a more natural-feeling joint replacement and create less friction and wear on your new joint.
