Every room in a home should be decorated in a style that reflects the owner's taste and particular sense of style. Why should the bathroom be any different? If you have a refined love of antiques, and are willing to showcase them throughout the rest of your home, why hesitate to do the same when it comes to your bathroom décor?

Sure, when you read the current home décor magazines you will see article after article heralding the edginess and trendy styles of glass bathroom vanities. The question you have to ask yourself is: are you a sheep that follows trends blindly, no matter what the cost, or are you of an independent mind, willing to let your choices in home décor speak for themselves? If you love antiques, then searching for the perfect antique bathroom vanity should be a done deal.

There are several things to consider when decorating your bathroom, of course: space, functionality, and cost. The wonderful thing about shopping for an antique bathroom vanity is that over the years, so many different styles and sizes were created that finding one that will fit into your particular space is just as easy ...
... as installing one of those trendy metal and glass bathroom vanities. The workmanship that went into those vanities from the ages has helped to make them last, and keep them in such wonderful condition today, will add flavor and flair to any bathroom décor.

The next thing to consider when it comes to bathroom décor is functionality. The bathroom is probably the second most important room in the house when it comes to comfort, ranking just behind the bedroom, of course. Especially if you have a family, with children. Can you picture yourself perching your small child on one of those glass bathroom vanities while you hunt around for a band aid to place on their most recent boo-boo? Even when you factor in memories of your own childhood, would you not prefer to see a solid and well-crafted antique bathroom vanity in that scene viewed through your mind's eye?

The last item most people consider whenever they decorate any room in their homes is cost. Granted, the word antique brings to mind pictures of wildly priced pieces found in a dusty shop somewhere. But, if you are familiar with antique buying practices, then you are well aware that you can always haggle down the price, based on the condition, craftsmanship and the period of the piece. When it comes to owning something with its own history, it may well be worth the effort.

Still, if cost is an issue, you should know that there are alternatives available. Instead of going with glass bathroom vanities that may cost less than their older competition, you may want to consider a more modern construct. They can look the same as a antique bathroom vanity, but at a lower cost, without losing any of the craftsmanship that went into the originals. Style and spice at an affordable price.

So many people today forget that the bathroom is just as important as any other room in their homes. They will spend thousands of dollars furnishing and decorating all of the rooms, except the bathroom. Too often, the bath winds up being the dumping ground for all things cheap, and it just makes no sense. If you love antiques, and are willing to display them in other rooms, think about adding just one functional find with a history all its own to the literal second most important place in your home.
