Delhi had the worst air quality and continues to be in the top cities worldwide with the worst ambient quality. In 2020, the government of the National Capital Territory launched the Switch Delhi campaign to improve air quality levels and to maintain a smooth supply chain of EVs.

To combat the pollution levels, the Delhi government launched an electric vehicle policy which is considered to be one of most progressive policies globally to ensure mass adoption and proliferation. The policy aims to solve the climate crisis drastically as the emissions caused by conventional vehicles result in adverse effects.

To assure the setting up of electric vehicle charging stations across the city, the government has collaborated with several DISCOMs to launch a single-window facility. As of now, Delhi has 2,000 EV charging stations and aims to make charging points available in a radius of every three kilometers. The government has also planned to have 1 out of every 4 vehicles sold in Delhi to be electric vehicles by 2024.

The government is also working to provide all possible facilities to make this campaign a mass movement. The NCT government has also asked multinational companies, delivery chains, resident welfare associations, malls, and cinema halls to promote EVs and set up charging points at their premises. Under the electric vehicle policy, the Delhi government has planned substantial subsidies on the purchase of electric two and four-wheelers besides waiving registration charges and road tax.

A customer can call Tata Power-DDL Sampark Kendra @19124 or can apply for the installation of an EV charging point from the Tata Power-DDL portal to submit their request. A consumer has to spend Rs. 2500 for a charging point to be installed after the submission of the request. To support the mass adoption of EVs, Tata Power-DDL is supporting the initiative and is facilitating the establishment of public charging stations and battery swapping in its licensed area.

Vehicular emissions have been a major concern in the national capital region and to make Delhi a world-class and pollution-free city, Tata Power-DDL is committed to supporting and developing sustainable business models.
