Nucleus Colonies (Nucs):

A nucleus colony, or nuc for short, is a small, established honey bee colony. It usually consists of 4-5 frames containing worker bees, brood, honey, and pollen, as well as a mated queen. Nucs are a popular way to start a new hive because they provide a head start in comparison to starting with a package of bees. Since the queen is already laying eggs and the bees have built up some resources, the colony can expand more quickly.
Queen Bees:

A queen bee is the only reproductive female in a honey bee colony. She is responsible for laying all the eggs, which will develop into worker bees and drones (male bees). Sometimes, beekeepers need to replace a queen due to various reasons such as poor performance, old age, or loss of the queen. In such cases, purchasing a mated queen can help re-establish the colony.
