Many of the same components are used in the EV, with the exception of an electrical compressor. Electric compressors are used mostly for trucks, building equipment, trucks to install and modify, pure electric vehicles, all types of locomotives, ships, etc.
The higher the voltage, the more energy that is available to the compressor, and the better performance that the compressor can produce. For any given cooling load, the current to the compressor is the electric power required for operation divided by the operational voltage.

The startup and shutdown of an electrically sliding compressor is controlled by flexible software codes. By using the variable-speed scroll compressor, the cooling system capability is aligned with vehicle cooling requirements, which maximises the systems efficiency and thus the runtime of the batteries. The compressor works with nearly all air conditioning systems, and features easy three-wire installation. DTM4 plugs (kit) and 2-pole battery wire connector are ...
... included with every compressor.

The original electrical wiring, power systems installed in your truck, vehicle, van, or any kind of vehicle, whether it is moving or stationary, should also be enough to accommodate the additional loads from a compressor and/or the total system. For starters, as mentioned earlier, you are probably going to need an Extreme Duty Alternator or a 2nd Alternator in order to supply sufficient electrical capacity for running the electrical compressor on your hot rod. Electric compressors designed for aftermarket applications will not offer enough performance, because they are not designed to carry the high heat-removal loads required by your hot rod. While a 12-volt compressor is technically feasible, it would provide extremely poor performance, as air conditioning requires significant electrical energy in comparison to most loads.

You are going to need a decent alternator that produces at least 100A, if not more, to handle the 66Amps of current that this compressor is going to need at full speed, 4000 RPM. For electric vehicles, you might want to go up to 400V or 800V to supply the energy to the drivetrain, and users will want to keep the compressor running at that same voltage to keep total system costs down. From the consumers perspective, it is worth bearing in mind that a good quality Sanden compressor supplied in Vintage Air systems is around $200, while primary-use electric compressors can cost between $1700 to $2,500 and more, not to mention additional costs associated with modifications of vehicles and electric systems that may need to be made in order to utilize the electric compressor.

Primary-use electric compressors require higher power from a vehicles electric system, with some compressors drawing up to 180 amps (more than 2,500 Watts) at 14 Volts. In fact, non-electric cars also employ auxiliary power units and electric compressors for a backup heat source and air conditioning, rather than running the diesel engine idle. Innovative electric designs enable compressors and A/Cs to operate even when the engine is off - saving fuel and providing comfort for operators. Most compressor plants for hybrids or electric cars are now operating on a higher-voltage system, ranging from 300-900 V, 3-phase AC, according to state data.
