Acoustic ceilings were introduced in the late 50’s where rooms in older house designs had very high ceilings to draw hot air away from the living spaces. These high ceilings are apparently an acoustic nightmare, enabling the sound a huge area to resonate and cause reverberation.

Acoustic ceilings are a reasonable way of reducing these ceilings in public buildings, schools, offices, homes and anywhere else which has these high ceilings and wants to absorb some of the sound of the environment.

A grid work of lightweight metal is hung from the basic ceiling creating a frame for school acoustics to put panels of sound absorbing material. Between the acoustic ceiling and basic ceiling is a space in which lighting fittings, piping and plumbing fittings can be hidden yet still be made readily accessible if the need of any maintenance work arises.

Those living in a flat with noisy neighbor above can benefit tremendously from catalyst acoustics . They are able to mask the sound of even the heaviest ...

Though a quick fix for ugly rooms, gym acoustics do have their disadvantages. The panels can become conveniently damaged by moisture in extreme cases, making the panels to drop from the ceiling unexpectedly. Less severe moisture damage can show itself in ugly dried water stains.

Due to their hard and reflective surfaces, gyms frequently have inferior acoustics making it hard to understand speech due to reverberations and echoes blended with the high level of activity that generally happens within them.

The average gym has an echo time of almost 3-7 seconds, resulting in a series of indistinguishable, non-directional flections which are far worse than just a single reverberation. This can leave an impression of omnipresent sound, which can be distracting at the best times.

Preventing gym echoes

A great way to harness these echoes would be acoustic wall panels or acoustic hanging baffles from Eckel. Hanging baffles, which have two sides and their edges are exposed to the sound can absorb it, making it possibly the best way to harness gym echoes.

Obviously, a gym will most possibly still sound like a gym, but when it is acoustically treated, it will sound better and much clearer and not that dry. If a gym sounds extremely dead, it may create a sonic disconnection with the available visual space. The acoustics should match the environment to create a convenient place to train, so maintaining a balance is vital.

Conclusion

Hanging baffles are the most effective, least intrusive choice for soundproofing gyms. They are also generally the best value for money, and are installed out-of-sight above the lights, so you don’t have to be concerned about the overall finish. With the additional surface area, there are few pieces to install. With the addition of wall panels, your gym with gym acoustics is complete.
