Electropolishing is an electrochemical process that removes a thin layer of material from the surface of the tube, resulting in a smooth, polished finish that is highly resistant to corrosion and staining.

This causes the surface of the tube to oxidise, producing a layer of passive oxide film that helps to prevent corrosion.
