Liquorish is a vision of a nomadic but contemporary journey into fashion, where Heffernan matched complex cutting with minimal seaming and juxtaposed soft and stiff fabrics with delicate details. This new collection is inspired by 80s glamour, which takes us back to the era of power dressing, where women wore multi-layered asymmetric chiffons in this season's favourite mint, lemon, oyster and orange , floating effortlessly down the London streets screaming wear me and feel retro-fabulous!
Heffernan took her inspiration from the then-rising popstar Madonna, who proved to be very influential to female fashion. Liquorish will shape the new London playful fashion scene with the street urchin look- short skirts over leggings, necklaces, rubber bracelets, fishnet gloves, hairbows, layered strings of beads, bleached and untidy hair with dark roots, head bands and lace ribbons. Heffernan dreams of the Like a Virgin phase, that millions of London teenage girls emulate her fashion, which may include brassieres worn as outerwear, huge crucifix jewellery, lace gloves, tulle skirts and ‘boytoy' belts to accompany her Liquorish collection. Short, tight Lycra or leather mini-skirts may also be worn, together with cropped, bolero-style jackets.
Heffernan aims to set the scene for special one night club evenings with her collection. Dresses in slinky satins and foulard silks or polyesters are often batwing or with set-in sleeves. Liquorish styles have swathes of fabric that are gathered and ruched, with falling silk, crepe de chine or chiffon asymmetric draped swirling skirts. Highly-styled intarsia-knit jumpers also form part of the look.
With this collection, Heffernan defines her style in London and repeats the mantra of body panelling, shaping our bodies into the curvaceous female form. Topshop and House of Fraser instantly bought into my concepts. My strongest pieces are the day/evening dresses. They are playful, sleek and elaborate to the eye, yet simple to wear. Both the cocktail skirt and dresses are something you can wear for five seasons or more. The shell suit is all about comfort- I know this from wearing it myself."
