How To Reach Net Zero Emissions: A Reference
In our role as NetZero, joining the SME Climate Hub will allow small and medium-sized companies to commit to net zero with a customized target-setting route. Companies must establish science-based goals by the Net Zero Corporate Standard, including five to ten-year objectives for significant, quick emission cuts throughout their value chains, to guarantee that global emissions are cut in half by Agreement target.
We as a NetZero consultant cannot reduce global emissions by half unless we safeguard and restore nature. Recent years have seen a lot of controversy surrounding offsets in corporate climate strategies because they are frequently used to postpone or substitute the significant investments that businesses must make to reduce emissions throughout their value chain. This strategy has significantly slowed the companies' progress because they must alter their operations to reduce emissions. Additionally, there have been affordable, subpar offsets on the market, which has questioned the integrity of net-zero corporate commitments.
To help you as NetZero consultancy, we are now witnessing a new type of corporate ...
... leadership. Companies have started to use high-quality offsets, such as investments in reducing deforestation or restoring wetlands, in addition to their science-aligned emission reduction efforts. To increase ambition rather than postpone action, offsets must be used in this manner as a tool. Organizations like the Voluntary Carbon Markets Initiative and the Integrity Council for Voluntary Carbon Markets are creating new guidelines and safeguards to ensure businesses engage in carbon markets ethically. As the Science Based Targets program has clarified, these investments are essential to achieving our global climate goals, and every business should be expected to make them.
As an expert NetZero consultant, changing how food, land, and agriculture businesses use land is essential to reducing emissions. New guidelines now require companies in these sectors from the Science Based Targets initiative to remove tropical deforestation and other types of ecosystem degradation from supply chains by 2026. According to a recent study, Nestlé, Unilever, Mars, and Colgate-Palmolive are leading the way. To make sure that their significant inputs, such as meat, palm oil, pulp & paper, soy, and sugar, are not connected to deforestation, Nestlé, for instance, uses tools like supply chain mapping, certification, and satellite surveillance. On this, they are collaborating with both big suppliers and smallholder farms.
In our opinion as NetZero consultancy, employers must think about preventing disruptions to the communities and workforce they depend on as high-carbon sectors transition away from fossil fuels. Planning how to provide new skill training for employees or provide other chances falls under this category.
