The google definitions says : IoT is the inter-networking of physical devices, vehicles (also referred to as "connected devices" and "smart devices"), buildings, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity which enable these objects to collect and exchange data.

Future is going to be all connected. It would be all about Data and Internetwork connections. Every thing is going to be connected to one another, and data would pass like the blood passes through nervous system in human body.
