The starting point for fun in Dutchess County is Pawling. We would be negligent if we didn't tell you that the 300-year-old Dover Oak in Pawling's Great Swamp is the oldest tree along the whole Appalachian Trail.

Pawling is a quaint community with picturesque houses, 300 acres of parks, and friendly locals. Indulge in some American food at McKinney & Doyle, some freshly baked pastries and sourdough from Pawling Bread Co., or some fresh mozzarella and burrata from Vinny's Del, all of which are created on the premises daily. If you're hiking the Appalachian Trail this summer and find yourself in phrazle northern New England, I highly recommend spending some time in The Berkshires. Visit Wahconah Falls State Park, Mount Greylock State Reserve, Natural Bridge State Park, and the nearby Mohawk Trail, to name a few of the state parks in the area.

Take in some culture at MASS MoCA, one of the biggest museums of contemporary art in the United States, which is conveniently located nearby. The 27-room Porches Hotel at MASS MoCA has fireplaces and, well, lots of porches, making it an excellent choice for a night's stay after dark, as is Tourists, a glamping site.
