It is no exaggeration, and should come as no surprise, that pet owners refer to their cats and dogs as if they were family members. It is the right way to think about them, even though we understand they have certain traits and qualities that make them animals. They deserve our love and care, they deserve to be sheltered, fed and loved – and they deserve our attention, too, when they are not well.

It is, therefore, a good idea to always have the contact details of the best animal hospital close by, whether you find yourself in Greeley, CO, or Denver, or Los Angeles for that matter. The animal clinic should carry the same importance for pet owners as does the hospital when they need it.

What can one expect from the animal clinic in terms of the facility itself, and also of the veterinarians, nurses and other staff? Firstly, every pet owner should expect their animals to be treated at a facility that offers the most recent, advanced, modern equipment such as, say, test and operating tools, x-ray machines and any other tools to help them quickly diagnose pets’ conditions so that treatment can go ahead. New vets ...
... are by no means inferior, but little beats experience built up over time.

Some important qualities one would look for in a good veterinarian and animal hospital would include the following:

• Knowledge – The veterinarian with knowledge about pet owners, their animals and ailments that pets suffer from, the veterinarian that diagnoses correctly and can prescribe the applicable treatment, has a great advantage over the vet with limited such knowledge. He/she needs knowledge and experience to be able to detect what is wrong with the animal, since the pet cannot communicate, except showing signs of discomfort, pain and listlessness, for example. When a good veterinarian works in a well-equipped animal hospital, chances are good that the clients and their pets will ultimately benefit.

• Communication Skills – The veterinarian that shows care and compassion and forms a natural bond with pets that visit or are under his/her care, has a real talent for communicating with animals. They connect with the pets, but they should also offer owners comfort and peace of mind, keep them informed and make sure they know what is expected of them with regard to, for example, aftercare for the pet when it goes home after surgeries or other treatment.

• A Gentle Approach – Both pet and their owner should feel comfortable with the touch of the veterinarian and the surrounds of the room(s) where consultations take place. A warm, friendly approach and gentle touch always work with pets. Remember, they are scared and find themselves in an unnatural situation. Therefore you need to calm them down – a gentle, soft approach and tone of voice work best.

• Be organized – It is fact that a well-organized practice delivers good results. An organized animal hospital makes it possible for all veterinarians and support staff to work well together and to make sure they know where all the equipment is, what medicines they have and what routines they run.

• Variety – Animals can develop one or more conditions, and the moment your pet gets sick, you want to be able to take it for treatment immediately and not start looking for a clinic that threats their specific ailment – you want to know that your vet is always ready for virtually any medical situation you and your pet may be faced with.
The above gives an indication of what could reasonably be expected from a good animal hospital. It is a starting point and could help the pet owner that wants to know what, among things, to look out for.
