What image does the word chandelier conjure up in your mind? Do you think of grand palaces and old stately homes with large ornate crystal chandeliers? Most people do. That traditional style of chandelier suits these old buildings and people do still buy them today. They still look fantastic in old period homes. The only difference is that nowadays lighting specialists like Wranovsky will use LEDs to light their chandeliers. Even ones that mimic candles amongst the crystals will have LED lights which makes them much cheaper to run.

Modern Chandelier Styles
Chandelier designers have moved with the times and now design chandeliers that will look amazing in modern homes. Most designers will create their chandeliers in several sizes so that you can still enjoy beautiful lighting if you live in a modern home with low ceilings. There are of course large, glamourous chandeliers that are made for modern hotels, bars, or large homes that have high ceilings and large, spacious rooms but with a contemporary interior. Wranovsky designers have proved that they have a talent for modern designs as much as traditional ...
... styles. Other lighting designers that excel in modern design are Lobmeyr, Luxxu, Masiero, and CTO Lighting.

Chandeliers Suitable For Small Homes
Everyone should be able to enjoy a little glamour and great lighting. At Luxury Lighting Boutique in Edinburgh, we always source a selection of light fittings that stand out from the crowd but still meet the requirements of a smaller budget and low ceilings. For instance, Eichholtz created a modern glass chandelier named Marco Polo that has a height of only 42.5cm. It is made from a series of round rods and looks nothing like a traditional chandelier but will still make a statement in a room. Masiero’s Ola chandelier is decorated with hundreds of Italian glass beads. It manages to have a modern design but the hanging glass beads give a nod to traditional chandelier designs.
You can still add the glamour of a chandelier to your home if you have very little space. These chandelier designers are also using their talent to create ceiling lights, wall lights and matching lamps. Their light fittings can transform a basic square room into an elegant space that illuminates your room in a way that makes it look more luxurious. Italian designer Vistosi has many designs in their latest collection that are ideal for modern, contemporary homes such as the Balance collection, the Tubes collection and the Futura collection.

Rectangular Chandeliers
I don’t think many of us think of a rectangle when we imagine a chandelier, however, in recent years, new designs have included both simple rectangular shapes and crystal adorned rectangles. The Amazone from Eichholtz has 3 layers of small rectangular crystal glass shapes hanging from a large rectangular frame. It looks both elegant and modern. If your budget is large, the Bellsize Park chandelier from Lobmeyr is a work of art. It is made from hundreds of hand-cut crystal glass rectangles and formed into a long rectangular shape. Hang it over your dining table, and it will most definitely be the talking point of the evening!

Spiral Chandeliers
Spiral chandeliers are very popular for staircases but can also be seen in places with very high ceilings. The Gaia crystal chandelier from Wranovsky is 240 cm high and made with silver and the finest bohemian crystal. This is one stunning spiral chandelier that I have only seen in photos but would love to see the effect of all the crystals in real life. If your budget doesn’t stretch to the Gaia but would like a similar effect for your home, the Vegas from Masiero is only a fraction of the price and still looks amazing. Instead of fine crystal glass, the Vegas is made from strips of textured glass.

Industrial Chandeliers
Perhaps you are not a fan of crystals, glitz and glamour but still want a fantastic centrepiece. A chandelier with an industrial look may be the answer. These chandeliers usually have metal structures with just a few simple globe lights. The Tango from Eichholtz has 5 clear globes hanging close together from wires. It may be a simple design, but it does look fantastic. The Saturn from Hudson Valley has moveable arms with a ring shaped metal shade at the end that contains an LED light. This is another simple design that will suit all types of modern décor.

We hope you take some time to browse modern chandeliers as they really can make your home stand out from the crowd and look more luxurious. At Luxury Lighting Boutique in Edinburgh, we would love to meet you to help you find the perfect designer chandelier for your home. We have a huge selection of designer lighting on our website that you can browse but please do get in touch if you can't find what you are looking for as we will be able to source your perfect chandelier.
