In Australia, there are national guidelines on road signs. This means that no matter whichever part of Australia you are driving in, the guidelines will be similar. These road signs falls under three categories: regulatory, warning and information. You will be taught about all these in your driving course in Sydney. Today, we are going to discuss about the regulatory signs.

Regulatory road signs are the most vital ones because they relate to specific road rules in Australia. It is easy to identify a regulatory sign by the colour used. These signs are either in red or black text with a white background. Make sure to follow these signs because if you don’t you will end up paying a huge fine. And in some cases, your license may be suspended or even cancelled. Below are some of the common regulatory signs to look out for:

Speed sign: these signs will tell you the maximum speed you can drive in. The speed limit is fixed keeping in mind everyone’s safety and security. If you flout the speed limit, you will be fined immediately.

School ...
... zone: these signs are used mostly in and around a school. This sign warns and reminds the driver that there is a school nearby and that they should drive carefully. If there is any rash driving in the area, you will be held accountable.

Give way: this sign indicates that there is no need to stop the car completely and let the traffic move. However, you should be prepared to stop the car if the need arises. Hence, it is best to drive with caution in areas with give way signs.

Stop sign: you simply cannot miss this sign. You have to stop your car immediately when you come across this sign. You cannot give any excuse for missing this sign. It is usually a red sign with the text in white.

Traffic flow sign: these signs help to better manage the traffic on road. Popular signs that fall under this include: ‘one way’, ‘two way’, ‘keep left’, ‘no entry’ and so on.

Clearways: it means that you cannot park the car during peak hours of the day. You many find vehicles being parked at other times but this is only during the hours mentioned.

Parking signs: whenever you are planning to park a car, make sure that you do so in a proper parking area. If there is a ‘no parking’ sign and you still park the car, the authorities have the right to tow away the car from the spot. At the same time, they will fine you as well.
