Pilot Training In India | Scope, Eligibility, Courses And Salary

To answer your question in short, after high school you can enroll in training programs to pursue a career in aviation, but there are a number of requirements, stages, and other aspects that you should be aware of before moving further.

Pilot training eligibility in India:

To enroll in an aviation course in India, the following eligibility criteria must be fulfilled:-

An individual must be 12th pass in India.
His/Her minimum age should be 17yrs in order to begin the training.
He/She must have studied PCM (physics, chemistry, mathematics) and English at an intermediate level.
He/She must get a medical certificate issued by the required authorities.
Pilot training courses in India:

... flight training. Ground training is the study of the theoretical aspects of flight. Flight training is the most important part of his pilot training and a candidate must complete 200 hours of solo and dual flight hours in order to obtain his CPL (Commercial Pilot License).

A pilot can train for the following license:-

Student Pilot License (SPL)
                 A Student Pilot License (SPL) permits a student to fly a registered aircraft under the supervision or authority of a licensed instructor or to fly independently after confirmation from a licensed instructor. He does not need to have an SPL before joining the pilot school, but once he reaches the solo phase of his flight training, he should start applying early to avoid delays.

              The following are eligibility criteria for SPL :-

1.He/She must be atleast 16 year in age.
2.He/She must Obtain a medical certificate proving you are fit to fly.
3.He/She must pass ground exams.
4.He/She must be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.


Private Pilot License (PPL)
With a private pilot's license, you can fly without being paid whether you're carrying passengers, cargo, or yourself. You must possess an SPL, be at least 17 years old, pass all the ground school tests, and pass the flight check ride administered by the Indian DGCA in order to obtain a private pilot license in India. The Indian GDCA requires 20 hours of solo flight time as the minimum amount of flight experience.

Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
To become a paid commercial pilot, you need a Commercial Pilot License (CPL). To get your CPL today, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

His/Her minimum age should be 18 years.
He/She must have Private Pilot License.
He/She must have at least 100 hours of flight time as a pilot in command and of least 15 hours of flight time within 6 months from the date of application.
He/She must have at least 20 hours of cross-country flight time as a captain, including cross-country flights of at least 300 nautical miles.


Airline Transport License (ATPL)
The ATPL is the highest level of aircraft pilot certification that allows pilots to serve as captains on scheduled flights. For this, you must be at least 21 years of age and must have a CPL license.

There are two more that are add-ons to your license and they are instrument rating(IR) and multi-engine rating (MER).

The scope of aviation as a career is really high, and there are a number of organizations that hire pilots. Thus candidates should not worry about the opportunities available as there is plenty of it in the market. Some of the organizations that actively hires are:-

5.Indian Navy
6.Salary of a pilot in India:

Depending on the work experience 0-5 years the salary of a pilot lies between 6 Lakhs – 16 Lakhs per annum.
