We need more power globally and scientists are looking for clean and renewable energy. Our energy-storage strategies are shaped by lithium ion batteries, a cutting edge technology that is guaranteed to be at the forefront of battery technology in the coming years.

The second technology for battery technologies is lithium sulfur batteries, which are lithium ions that are stored in active materials to provide stability when charging and discharging. These batteries use light active materials, sulfur in the positive electrode and metallic lithium in the negative electrode. They will have an energy density of four times that of the regular lithium ion battery, making it perfect for space and aviation industries.

Battery technology companies have already researched and are in the developmental stages of the lithium sulfur batteries, focusing on rapid deployment with a long battery life.

Solid state batteries are the batteries that are really under scrutiny by battery technology companies today. This is a shift in technology to focus on an all solid state battery, replacing the liquid electrolyte with a solid compound that allows the ions to migrate. The concept has been in development for years with global research and new solid electrolytes are now being discovered to further improve performance.

The solid state lithium ion batteries are expected to be stable and safe at all battery and cell levels. Solid electrolytes are not a fire risk when heated, unlike the liquid chemicals that are used today. It allows for high voltage and high capacity materials, offering a lighter battery with an excellent shelf life and reduced discharge.
