Electric Vehicle is shaping the future of transportation sector in India. In face of this, Government of the National Capital Territory started Switch Delhi campaign to raise awareness regarding EVs due to high pollution levels. This mass awareness campaign aims to make Delhi the EV capital of India.

The Delhi government is educating the citizens to make a shift from their conventional fuel vehicles to EVs. This shift will reduce carbon emissions and clear the air for significant climate progress. The government aims to have at least 5 lakh electric vehicles by 2024.

The running cost of electric vehicle is much lower than that of conventional vehicle and moreover EVs are more efficient and there is no hassle of frequent visits to service centre. After the launch of the Delhi EV policy, more than 6,000 EVs have been purchased.

Subsidy Policy to promote EV

The Delhi government is leveraging extensive subsidies under the Delhi EV policy ...
... on two and four-wheeler subsidies. A single-window facility is also launched by the government of National Capital Territory in coordination with DISCOMs for the installation of charging stations for private electric vehicles.

The government has also issued tenders for setting up 100 charging stations across Delhi. The total cost of installing an electric vehicle charger under single window process is as low as Rs 2500, which includes the cost of the EV charger inclusive of GST, charger installation costs and annual maintenance cost for 3 years.

There are three types of chargers that can be availed from the vendors under single window facility. The first is the Light Electric Vehicle (LEV) charger primarily used for two and three wheelers. The second is the AC 001 charging standard which is used as AC charging standard or also can be used for two and three wheelers. The third is the DC 001 charging standard which is used by fleet operators. A consumer can avail a charging point by visiting the Tata Power-DDL EV website which will be installed within seven working days after the submission of the request.
