PIR Sensors is installed with such features that they can detect human or animal motion. The reason behind this is that Human's emit infrared radiation. It comes with the mechanism that when humans come in sensing range of the PIR sensor, these changes in the radiation gets detected by the sensor resulting in the output sensor to go high.
