Common Forging Defects
Unfilled sections
Some of the forging areas are left unfilled. It happens due to poor die design, poor forging technique, insufficient raw material and poor heating process.
We have observed that this imperfection can be fully removed by designing the die accurately, filling sufficient raw material and the right level of heating.

Die Shift
During forging sometimes upper and lower die alignment disturbs. Misalignment affects the forging component with its dimensions.
You can rectify this defect by aligning the upper and lower die parts. As both notches match, the part will come out with the proper dimensions.
Flakes
Cooling of forged components is a crucial step of forging. If the forged component is cooled immediately, the final outcome develops cracks. Such components are weak and have visible flakes. However, you can easily overcome these defects by following the proper cooling process.
Uneven Grain Growth
Improper metal flow during casting is responsible for this flaw. This changes the predefined grain structure of the final product. Improper metal flow is again an effect of die design, which you can easily rectify by changing the design of the die.
Incomplete Forging Penetration
Incomplete forging, and light and rapid hammer blows can affect the forging penetration. Proper control over forging presses can remove this defect completely.
