The second largest hill station in the blue mountain hills, situated at a distance of 18km from the Queen of Hills is Coonoor in the South Indian State of Tamil Nadu. Being a highly suitable place for trekking expeditions, Coonoor is very much preferred by the tourists who want to explore the Nilgiri Hills.
The major attraction of Coonoor is Sims Park, which has spread across an area of 12 hectares, partially developed in Japanese style, more than 1000 species of plants are cultivated and maintained here. The annual flower and vegetable exhibition normally held in May attracts thousands of tourists from different parts of the world.
The other places worth paying a visit are the Dolphin’s nose, Lady Canning’s seat, Lamb’s Rock, Droog’s Fort, Law’s Falls and High Field Tea Factory. The other significant places in and around Coonoor are, the Pomological center, Pasteur Society of India, Satellite Silkworm Breeding Station, Strawberry Cultivation Center.
