Ladies and Gentlemen,It's my pleasure to meet all of you here. Now, I'd like to declare that on Thursday morning, October 16 (Beijing Time), Yang Liwei.

the first Chinese astronaut aboard the domestically developed Shenzhou V Spacecraft, safely landed in the central region of Inner Mongolia. Therefore, China has become the third nation after Russia and the United States to possess the capability to put an astronaut into space.

The Shenzhou V manned spacecraft was launched at 9S00 am, Wednesday, October 15(Beijing Time) from China's Jiuquan Satellite Launching Center atop the Long March-2Fcarrier rocket, and orbited the earth 14 times before its successful return to the central region of Inner Mongolia.

For the successful launch of the Shenzhou V spacecraft, a global monitoring and control network was formed, consisting of Beijing, Joaquin and Xi'an command and control centers, a number of ground telemetry and control stations at home and abroad, as well as four Yuanwang tracking and control ships stationed in the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Indian Ocean.

Six satellites of the International Satellite ...
... Organization and the Asia-Pacific Mobile Telecommunications Co., Ltd. were used for communication support. They jointly performed the task of launch control.

During the flight, astronaut Yang Liwei closely kept in touch with the ground. Beijing Aerospace Command and Control Center was informed momentarily of the physical condition of the astronaut through the physiological telemetry parameters.

Yang Liwei monitored the execution of important spacecraft commands and the operation of the craft during the flight, and then reported the results to Beijing Aerospace Command and Control Center. Besides, he also conducted the scheduled space experiments according to the ground instructions and the plan.

When the Shenzhou V was orbiting the Earth at the seventh tune, astronaut Yang Liwei displaye the national flag of the People's Republic of China and the UN flag. With the UN flag aboard the Shenzhou V manned spacecraft, the flight demonstrates that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the cooperation with the United Nations in making peaceful uses of the outer space and gives its support to the purpose and principles of the United Nations.

At the same time, it also exhibits the commitment of the Chinese government to the peaceful uses of space for the benefit of mankind. China's manned space project, which was approved in 1992, consists of such seven systems as the astronaut, spacecraft scientific application, manned spacecraft), carrier rocket, launching site, monitoring and control and landing site.

China manned space engineering office is in charge of the general organization and coordination of the whole project. In China's space history, the manned space project has been so far the largest as to its scale, the most complicated in terms of its systems and the most sophisticated in its technology among the state key projects.

Up to the achievement of the first manned flight, the Chinese government has in all allocated more than RMB18 billion yuan to the project.

The maiden manned spaceflight is the first step of China's space program. In accordance with the development plan approved by the Chinese government, the manned space project is to be implemented in three steps.

The first step is to launch unmanned and manned spacecrafts so as to put astronauts safely into the Low Earth Orbit, properly conduct earth observation and scientific experiments and ensure a safe return of the astronauts, and set up a preliminarily complete system of the manned space project.

The second step is to achieve space walking and a rendezvous docking of spacecrafts, develop and launch a spacelab, and solve problems with a certain scale in terms of the application of a spacelab that can be manned for a short period of time.
