A gate valve is a rectangular or circular wedge that is part of a linear motion valve. To open or close a metal gate, it can be raised or lowered. When lifted, the gate opens and allows flow; when dropped, it closes and blocks the channel. Gate valves are primarily intended for on-off operations. They work best in systems where the valve is only used infrequently. They are designed for full-area flow to reduce pressure drop and allow a pipe-cleaning pig to pass through. Because the majority of the flow change happens near the shutoff, the relatively high fluid velocity causes disc and seat wear, as well as eventual leakage if the valve is used to regulate flow.

Types of Gate Valve –
• Rising Stem Gate Valve
The gate is the opening and closing portion of the rising stem gate valve, and its movement direction is perpendicular to the fluid direction. The rising stem gate valve can only be opened and closed completely; it cannot be adjusted or throttled.

• Non-Rising Stem Gate Valve
The non-rising is designed so that the stem of the gate valve is fully open when the handle is rotated as far to the left as possible and fully closed when the handle is rotated as far to the right as possible.It's also known as a Blind Stem Wedge Gate Valve or a Rotating Stem Gate Valve.

• Bellow Seal Gate Valve
Forged Steel Gate Valves are constructed with a bolted bonnet, an outside screw and yoke, a rising spindle, and a non-rising hand wheel

• Pressure Seal Gate Valve
