Ramen And Its Growing Popularity In The Us

Eating habits are, mostly, associated with a people’s culture. Therefore in Australia, Argentina and many other Western societies mutton is popular, beef in the US, the Sunday roast and Yorkshire pudding in the UK, sauerkraut in Germany – and noodles and ramen in Asian countries.
Ramen, for example, goes back to somewhere in the East. One school of thought places it in ancient China, another in 12th century Japan. There is no absolute certainty. Ramen and noodles are eaten all over the world today, probably because there is a much greater than before exposure of cultures to one another. This may also explain the growing popularity of ramen and noodles in Western societies such as, say, the US.
Instant noodles were created in 1958 by Momofuku Ando and became an instant hit. It is not difficult to explain: it is easy and quick to prepare the most delicious noodle dishes with your choice of vegetables and/or in a broth that you prepare separately. Some people like their ramen and other noodles with fish or meat, while others prefer to dish up vegetarian and/or vegan meals.
After 1980, when ramen became ...
... more readily available all over the world (and not only in Japan and China) it has become nothing short of a Japanese icon. It is available all over the world, grown in many parts and enjoyed by millions, also in the US. Local varieties of the original ramen are starting to appear, with these varieties finding their way into mainstream cooking. It certainly seems that ramen is here to stay forever, since it can be prepared as a fast alternative, and as tasty as anything you want.
Personal preference also plays a role when it comes to how – and with what – you season and garnish your ramen and other noodle products. As is the case everywhere, millions of Americans support ramen and noodles that are organically grown and harvested as part of a healthier lifestyle; they avoid genetically modified foods and other products, and they will not buy any foods if these are not guaranteed organic products. Some go further and will avoid ramen and noodles if they contain any traces of dairy and other animal products. They will buy only those products that are good for vegetarians and vegans to use.
Gluten intolerance is also a well-recorded fact; therefore many individuals that buy and enjoy ramen will first establish what the manufacturer has to say about gluten in their products, and wheat, for example. Gluten sensitivity is a world-wide problem, and if you can buy gluten and wheat free ramen, you may save yourself the physical discomfort so regularly associated with this protein which is often found in some grains such as wheat and rye, and therefore potentially in ramen – unless it is stated that the ramen does not contain gluten and wheat.
There are so many lovely recipes that can be enjoyed with your choice of ramen. Think, for example, of the lovely soups you can prepare. Examples abound. Think, for example, about a black rice ramen soup to which you add your own tastes such as miso, nuts and seeds – and vegetables such as, say, butternut squash, or carrot, or sweet potato – or your own preferences. And of course you will decide about ginger, coriander, star anise and other options that talk to your palate. The possibilities are endless, for both those that follow a non-vegetarian/vegan lifestyle and for those that do.
Plant-based ramen, just like many other foods, has certain benefits, such as containing plenty proteins, healthy fats and other ingredients that may actually help fight inflammation, with high fiber contents promoting better gut health. Ramen is popular, and for good reason. And the good news is that you can buy it from many sources in the US today.
