There may be more persons than the one percent of the global population who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder because many cases go untreated.

Researchers from Imperial College London looked at a group of autistic adults (mean age 32) who had signed up with the UK Medical Cannabis Registry to determine the safety and efficacy of cannabis products. ... amounts of THC and less CBD were found in the cannabis products used most often by the subjects.

Researchers found that cannabis therapy alleviated patients' symptoms, which is in line with previous research. They cut back on the number of prescription drugs they took. The proportion of patients prescribed both benzodiazepines and neuroleptics concurrently dropped by 33.3% and 25.0%, respectively, in this cohort. In addition, the authors noted that more than 80% of the test subjects "well tolerated" cannabis concoctions.

Improvements in general health-related quality of life, as well as sleep and anxiety-specific outcomes, were observed in the first documented experience of clinical outcomes in adult patients with ASD treated with CBMPs.
