Things You Should Know About Preserving Flowers

While your local farmers and garden are abundant with flowers, derive benefit of of the blooms by preserving them for your winter and fall decorating.
To preserve your flowers, you will require the following materials:
1. Blooms of different types from the garden
2. Toothpicks
3. Small spoon
4. Small funnel
5. Large box of crystals
Instructions
Cut the blooms from their early bud stage to completely open. Remember that a flower that is near to the end of its cycle won’t preserve as nicely. Sort the blossoms according to thickness. Some poppies, buttercups and pansies and other flowers with single petals can be dried together. Rose buds should be dried with any other tight buds.
Gently shake every flower to make sure all the bugs are shifted. Cut the stem about an inch from the base of the bloom. Remove any external flower petals that might be damaged.
In the bottom of the container, pour almost an inch and half of Borax. Settle the blooms into the container, with stems inserted into the crystals. Blooms should not touch each other or the side of the container.
Using ...
... a spoon, mindfully sprinkle more crystals on every bloom and around it. Make sure to support any petal that might be odd-shaped by adding more Borax in or under those spots. Once you have almost half-inch of crystals on the top of the blooms, use a funnel to continue pouring the crystals evenly over the container until there are two inches.
After 3 weeks, it is then safe to check your blooms. Some might be ready to be removed and some might require drying period. Mindfully spoon away the top layer. Using the spoon on your hands, gently lift out flowers. Don’t lift by the petals. By holding the bloom by the stem, gently shake to remove any of the crystals left.
Roses, carnations and any types of buds might take longer to dry. When a bloom is dried, it will have a transparent look about it. Some blooms that have a strong aroma might also maintain that smell.
This procedure can be used to maintain a corsage and other flowers received for special events.
After you have removed the blooms from the Borax, then you can pour the crystals through a colander to remove any petals or leaves you have missed. Place shifted crystals back in the bucket, leave the rid off for a few days. Stir occasionally to make sure crystals are air-dried. Put lid on the bucket and store in a cool dry place until you are ready to dry the next batch of blooms. They can again be used three to five times. The aim of the florist offering preserved flowers Melbourne should be to lessen time the flowers are in storage and to enhance the freshness of the flowers in the hands of the consumers.
