Types Of Embroidery Laces

The surviving traditional form of embroidery today can be dated as far back as the fourth century in China. Embroidery from ancient Egypt, Iron Age Europe, Persia, Greece, India and England too has survived the test of time. Embellishing one's clothes or home with embroidered handicrafts is an age old tradition.
Embroidery laces originated in the 15th and 16th century from white work or embroidery from white thread. Embroidery classes were part of the curriculum during King Charles the fifth's time in the Belgian provinces. Embroidery laces became a matter of fashion during the Renaissance period. Embroidery lace gained popularity later on because it could easily replace traditional embroidery and even transformed the dresses to suit contemporary styles. Embroidery laces could be removed from one garment and stitched on another dress with ease and precision.
Since the Belgian embroidery laces, many styles and techniques have evolved in embroidery laces. Internationally there are two distinct styles in embroidery laces - needle and bobbin. In the needle embroidery laces the most popular all over the world are, ...
... the rosepoint lace, renaissance lace and princess lace. Both the types are popularly used for wedding veils and other ceremonial dresses. Duchess lace and princess lace are woven on bobbins. There are other types of embroidery laces like crotchet lace, Knitted lace etc.
Indian embroidery laces are variants of the two types of laces. Indian embroidery laces take richer patterns. Silk threads are often used for an exuberant look. The synthetic embroidery laces are cheaper and are available in plenty in Indian market. Indian embroidery laces typically use cotton, silk, nylon, polyester, jute and an assortment of beads and metallic trimmings.
