I never used to be a big fan of gardening. For years I had a bit of lawn, which I was quite fond of mowing, bordered by flowers that I strongly suspected might be weeds. It was lovely to put a folding chair out there in the height of summer and just sit in the sun with a sparkling drink. Recently though, there have been some stark changes about the place. The house is under new management and I am powerless to stop the terrifying march of progress that is going on all around me. My bedroom is no longer littered with dirty washing and I now own no less than three different scrubbers, to be used for washing dishes. In short, I have gone and gotten married. It seems as though it happened rather suddenly, but the ten-year anniversary was last month - so I suppose I should just surrender myself to the fact that gardening will consist of more than just lawn-mowing from now on. The trouble is - what with all the garden development that is constantly going on (new plants and suchlike) there are strange new expenditures to be expected. New plants - i am told - cost money. Luckily, we do most of our shopping online - and I have discovered ...
... (as you may be interested to know) that promotional codes are available from websites like http://www.voucherking.co.uk/categories/home-and-garden, which can be used to soften the blow. By going to garden centres during the sales, and using home and garden voucher codes from the internet, my wife and I have developed quite a passion for gardening together - and so I would like to share with you today a few plants, that are recommended if you are trying to develop your garden:

Pansies and Cyclamen

These brightly-coloured flowers are brilliant winter bedding plants. This means that they can either be used to fill in gaps between bigger shrubs or to cover a whole flower bed. You need to carefully plant them in autumn, so that they can flower throughout the winter.

Daffodils

When spring breaks, there is nothing better than to see your first daffodil shoots poking their way through - except the glorious blaze of colour that comes when they flower! Again, you ought to plant them in early autumn.

Goldfinch

To have a really great garden, it helps if you can allow a climbing plant to grow up a fence or post. Goldfinch starts off yellow (in summer) and fades to a paler vanilla-like colour later on. Beautiful.

Purple Emperor

A really beautiful autumn flower - the final thing you need to have a garden that flowers all year round!

The trick with gardening is to use lots of fresh compost, and to lightly water your plants about once a week (to keep the soil slightly moist). Use home and garden voucher codes (or other promotional codes for online stores) to help you save money on your developing garden. Above all, have fun with it.
