Two Categories Of Suspended Platforms You Should Know About
Suspended platforms are designed to work at heights where safety concerns may arise. These platforms are often used in construction sites, warehouses, factories, and other places where people need to work at a height.
A suspended access platform is indispensable when it comes to working at a great height above the ground and carrying out operations safely - be it painting, construction, electrical work, plumbing etc.
Categories of Suspended Platforms
There are two categories of suspended platforms; they are either fixed or mobile. A fixed platform is attached to a structure and cannot move around. On the other hand, a mobile platform can be moved around and is usually used in construction sites.
1. Fixed Platforms
Fixed platforms are generally used in industrial settings where workers have to perform tasks at high levels. They are often used in warehouses, factories, and any place where people need to work above ground level. Fixed platforms are usually built using steel beams and girders. The beams and girders are connected together using welded joints. The ...
... welded joints ensure that the platform remains strong and stable.
You can also find wire rope suspended platform, which is suspended from a specific point, in order to provide workers with access to a specific area that is inaccessible otherwise.
2. Mobile Platforms
Mobile platforms are similar to fixed platforms except that they can be easily moved around. They are usually used in construction sites where heavy equipment needs to be transported from one location to another. Mobile platforms are usually built using hydraulic jacks. Hydraulic jacks are mechanical devices that use pressurized water to lift heavy objects.
Types of Suspended Platforms
There are many different types of suspended platforms depending on their purpose and size. Here are some examples of suspended platforms:
• Scaffolding
• Hoists
• Cranes
• Gondolas
• Trusses
• Bridges
Safety measures should always be taken before using a suspended platform. Always wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, ear protection, eye protection, gloves, and boots. Make sure that the platform is inspected regularly to check if it is structurally sound, and whether the different suspended platform parts are in good condition. If the platform is not safe, then it should be repaired immediately.
