Several young girls in India are still not welcomed in their homes and are viewed as a financial liability. In many geographical belts of India, the girl child is not allowed to be born, and even if she does, there are many obstacles standing in the way of her leading an equal opportunity life. Young girls are particularly vulnerable to abuse, violence, and neglect because of the extreme poverty in their families. This leads to ripple effects that make them more vulnerable, stressed, and in danger.

Poverty and lack of awareness lead to the ongoing practice of child marriage in India. Every 1 out of 3 child brides worldwide are from India, according to UNICEF 2014, which highlights this grim reality. Child marriage is one of the most common types of child abuse in India which gives way to other forms of exploitation. Instead of becoming child brides, young girls must attend school because this problem promotes illiteracy and teen pregnancy. Additionally, ...
... 60% of girls who married before the age of 15 delivered birth before turning 18 years old, according to UNICEF.

To make matters worse, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected many homes due to the loss of livelihood. Instead of helping reduce the financial burden, child marriage worsens the economic condition across generations, besides being a human rights violation.

CRY, the top NGO in India, has been working relentlessly to defend and uphold young girls' rights. Additionally, CRY has been carrying out online counselling sessions, setting up house visits, and educating various groups about the many repercussions of child marriage, including long-term and immediate effects. It is time for justice, respect, and equity for all young girls, and your generous donation will assist CRY and its on-ground teams to contact more families and put an end to the practice of child marriage. Donate to NGO CRY to protect underprivileged girls from child marriage and even avail of an income tax exemption.
