As the temperatures start to drop and the days get shorter, it’s important to take care of your eyes during the winter months. Here are a few tips to help keep your eyes healthy and comfortable all season long:

1. Protect your eyes from the cold and wind. When you’re outside, make sure to wear sunglasses or eyeglasses with lenses that block out 100% of rays. You might also want to consider wearing a hat or scarf to protect your eyes from the cold wind.

2. Keep your eyes hydrated. Just as your skin gets dry in the winter, so does your eyeball tissue. To help keep your eyes moist, use artificial tears or eye drops as needed. You can also increase your intake of water and other fluids.

3. Be careful with heating sources. Indoor heat can make your eyes dry and irritated. To help reduce dryness, try using a humidifier in your home. And be sure to keep any heating sources, like space heaters and fireplaces, at least three feet away from your eyes.

4. Take breaks from screens. Staring at screens all day can strain your eyes and make them dry and irritated. To help reduce eye fatigue, take frequent breaks ...
... from looking at screens and try to blink often.

5. Get your annual eye exam. It’s important to have your eyes checked by an eye doctor at least once a year, even if you don’t have any vision problems. During your exam, the doctor will check for common eye diseases and conditions, such as cataracts, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration.

6. Know when to see the doctor. If you have any vision problems, pain in your eyes, or excessive redness or discharge, make an appointment to see your eye doctor right away. These could be signs of a serious eye problem that needs treatment.

7. Keep the Windscreen Clean– In the winter, with all the rain and snow, it becomes very difficult to keep the car’s windscreen clean. However, a dirty or streaky windscreen not only obstructs your view while driving but can also lead to eye fatigue. Therefore, it is important that you keep the windscreen clean at all times.

8. Drive Carefully– With the reduced visibility due to fog, rain, and snow, it becomes very difficult to drive during winter. Therefore, it is important that you drive carefully and slowly to avoid any accidents.

9. Wash your Hands Regularly– In the winter, there are a lot of viruses and bacteria going around. To protect your eyes from these, it is important that you wash your hands regularly.

10. Keep Your Eyes Healthy– Lastly, it is important to keep your eyes healthy by eating a balanced diet and getting enough sleep.

11 Do not share your ‘make-up’ or Cosmetics– Many eye infections are caused by sharing ‘make-up’ or cosmetics. Therefore, it is important to not share your personal products with anyone else.

By following these tips, you can help keep your eyes healthy and comfortable all winter long.
