In a difficult economic climate, we are all out to save a bit of money where we can. 125cc scooters provide a cost effective solution for our daily commutes, offering incredible value for money by combining cheap fuel, insurance, tax and more. If you are thinking of ways that you could save money today, this could be a great one to help cut your costs today.

Money saving motors

Wondering just how much 125cc scooters could save you? If your work is far enough from your home that walking is impossible, or if you simply travel a lot with a need to reach your destination quickly, you must find that your fuel bills have escalated of late. Combine this with expensive tax, insurance and even repair bills and you might find yourself becoming increasingly frustrated with your current vehicle.

A scooter, on the other hand, could save you money compared to what you are paying now in the following areas:

Fuel. Expect to enjoy up to 70mpg on your scooter. That's a lot better than you will receive from your car.
Tax. The Government likes scooters. With lower carbon emissions and less fuel needed to run them, ...
... the more they are used the better it reflects on our country. Therefore the tax to pay on a scooter is far less than that of a car.
Insurance. Scooter insurance payments are significantly less than that of car insurance. You could save tens, if not hundreds, of pounds a year by swapping four wheels for two.
Repairs. Parts for scooters are common, and repairs are usually easy and cheap, unlike expensive car work.

Accessible for everyone

Anyone above the age of 17 is allowed, by law, to ride 125cc scooters after they have passed their Compulsory Basic Training (CBT). Your CBT will introduce you to important information regarding road safety, how to control your scooter and even what you should wear when you ride. Your instructor will take you out for a ride on the road that will last for around two hours after some initial instruction. If you are deemed safe by said instructor, you will be presented with a certificate valid for two years. However, you will need to keep the old ‘L' plates on your vehicle.

For impatient 16 year olds, the CBT can still be taken, but only scooters up to a size of 50cc can be ridden on public roads.

The price of the CBT will vary depending on your location, and whether you need to borrow safety equipment and a scooter from the testing agency, or if you have your own to use.

It isn't difficult to get your hands on a scooter. 125cc scooters can be purchased from second hand dealers if you can't afford a new model. Once you have passed your CBT and have your hands on a bike, you can start to reap the benefits of some very real savings.
