How Facebook Will Alter The Way We Do Business

A few years back I was working in an office of technical people. I have never been one to spend too much time socializing. Being a site designer, and web developer..all wrapped into one neat package, I tend to have little occasion to spend using the web, other than working on specific campaigns.
As strange as it might seem, Facebook was around for quite a while before I knew about it, or even bothered to open an account. I haven't been turned into an ardent addict or a victim of the newly coined "Facebook Addiction Disorder". I have, nevertheless, been turned into a believer!
Facebook, ushered in a fresh era of Social media marketing that has taken the world by storm and opened up innovative industries and areas of expertise. There are people who have turned simple ideas into mega-million sales generators, just by leveraging their online marketing strategies on social marketing, Search engine marketing along with additional, once-ignored, online marketing tactics.
What Facebook did was phenomenal: Online marketing used to be about banners, banners and more banners pasted on top of every available white-space ...
... on whichever site would accept, but now, Facebook has refined the whole process. Nowadays, you can log into Facebook, choose who you would like to reach with your advertising campaign.
By 'who', I mean you can choose the following parameters as restrictions for your marketing campaign:
Age
Gender
City
Town
Country
Interest (such as music, films, politics etc)
and so much more!
It doesn't end there however... subsequent to selecting your campaign parameters, Facebook can tell you accurately how many individuals your commercial will reach! Not even TV, radio or printed press can offer such control!
What this means is that all those usual methods of advertising, where advertisers pretty much just 'threw everything against the wall' and hoped for the best are now headed for the waste pile. With more control, as well as better, more precise monitoring of response and reaction, advertisers can determine far more accurate ROI, or Return On Investment, as it is called. In the very foreseeable future, it may well be that models like TV and Radio advertising will turn to online advertising systems to somehow integrate and merge, or alternatively, die a slow death.
Small businesses that look far beyond tomorrow, have embraced social media marketing (SMM) and are well placed to reap the new benefits and advantages offered.
I am a believer now, and I doubt I will be marketing like I used to before: it's online marketing with social media from now on for me!
