What exactly is a urine sample test?
The process of testing urine samples is known as urine analysis or urinalysis. It includes a series of laboratory tests performed on a clean catch of urine samples or urine specimens taken from patients to determine their health status. One of the most accurate and economical diagnostic procedures, it can provide information on the fundamental metabolism of the body. Urine analysis is frequently employed and one of the accurate and most reliable diagnostic tools for many disease conditions. It is used to diagnose and monitor several vascular disorders, renal disorders, endocrine disorders, liver diseases, and urinary tract infections.

What is revealed by urine analysis?
Urine analysis always requires a clean catch of fresh urine samples collected from the patient. General urine examination usually requires small amounts of urine specimens, preferably 30-60 mL, in a clean, sterile urine collection container. Urine analysis mainly focuses on examining the physical and chemical properties of the test urine samples and checking for normal urine constituents. There are three ...
... essential steps involved. Urine samples are visually inspected to determine their color, clarity, and odor. It is the first step in the urine analysis process.

Microscopic examination of the urine samples is conducted to detect the presence of blood cells such as red blood cells (RBC), white blood cells (WBC), cast, crystals, and urinary pathogens, such as bacteria, fungi, etc. Furthermore, in the third step, biochemical estimation of urine samples is conducted to detect the presence of dissolved elements, proteins, bile pigments, medications, pH, hormones, and nitrogenous waste products indicating disease or toxicities. Besides, urine culture is also performed to detect the presence of any pathogens, such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, etc., in case of a urinary tract or kidney infection. Therefore, urine analysis acts as one of the preliminary diagnostic tests for a multitude of diseases. Moreover, it is one of the most cost-effective laboratory diagnostic tools.
