Enjoying good, tasty food is one of life’s greatest pleasures. It is also true that not all foods are equally good for us, especially if they leave us feeling bloated or uncomfortable - or worse still, with cramps that can make us miserable for days. Few of the high carb foods we eat every day do not contain gluten, which is why there is much more interest in this topic than ever before. All those lovely breads and cakes, and related choices high in carbohydrates, may actually not be all that good for us. Also, more and more Americans – and other societies – are obese or overweight as a result of bad eating habits. Add the noodles to rich broths and vegetable soups, with or without bits of small, sliced pieces of pork and other meat, or top your soup with a boiled egg. Enjoy it as a meal at home, or as a fast-food option during tea break or office lunch.
There are various options for the person that wants to experiment with variety. Making a good broth may take a little bit of time, but the results are always wonderful, whether you prefer a broth with chicken, fish or an assortment of veggies, with or without salt. Some families favor soy sauce in their broths, other families may prefer a miso paste, or tonkotsu.
Think of the different toppings that typically complement a good noodle soup, such as chashu (thinly sliced pieces or roasted/braised sweet pork), kamaboko (steamed fish cake), tamago (boiled egg), nori (nutritious seaweed) and a host of others. There are many options, and a great many recipes to choose from to prepare a great ramen noodle soup.
More and more people are aware these days of the options they have, also in terms of which a closer look is taken at organically grown and harvested – i.e. healthier – food options, such as soba noodles and similar foods.
