Magnetic Resonance-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) Royal Care is a treatment option for patients with Essential Tremors or Tremor Dominant Parkinson’s disease who haven’t responded to medication or are not willing to have invasive surgery. The procedure uses focused beams of ultrasonic energy guided by MRI to target areas deep in the brain with no incisions or permanent implants. . MRgFUS procedure does not require general anaesthesia. It makes it viable and safer for patients with kidney or heart problem who are unfit for general anaesthesia and on the same ground, face problems while undergoing regular surgeries. However, it has been associated with variable efficacy and a relatively high incidence of adverse effects. MRgFUS is exactly like the radiation in one sitting of one hour and you completely destroy the tremor and pain also disappears. MRgFUS is used for to treat Parkinson’s patients with tremors and we are going to treat the centres that cause tremors without opening the skull just by sending sound radiation. It will enable us to perform brain surgeries without even touching the patient. Different surgeries ...
... of the brain can be performed using MRgFUS without opening the skull. MRgFUS brain module will perform surgeries of brain tumors, Parkinson’s disease tremors.
The magnetic resonance enables the doctor to detect the tremor and the surroundings in 3D, it also helps in getting a real time knowledge about the temperature changes in the treated areas and observe what has been treated. At a lower energy, MRgFUS can disrupt the blood-brain barrier to allow passage of drugs. This focal disruption of the barrier can target systemic medications to specific portions of the brain, such as for brain tumors. Current methods to bypass the blood brain barrier are invasive, as the blood brain barrier is relatively impermeable to systemically delivered antineoplastic agents. MRgFUS has great potential to enhance brain tremor drug delivery, while limiting treatment toxicity to the healthy brain. As of now, there are 110 installations across the world. MRgfus Royal Care in Coimbatore is the only Neuro-Care center in all of India, facilitated with expertise and technology that provides an MRgFUS (Magnetic Resonance guided Focused Ultrasound) therapy to Essential Tremors and Parkinson’s patients with tremors.
